Oral Surgery
Dental problems occur frequently, and most can be treated with simple fillings or crowns. For more severe restorations, a patient may need to undergo oral surgery. There are multiple types of oral surgeries that can help improve your oral health. Here at Summer Creek Dental, we offer several oral surgery services to help you gain a healthy, beautiful smile. If you are in need of oral surgery and are in the Humble area, please come in and see us! Our dental professionals are trained to help our patients feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire process. Oral surgery doesn’t have to be intimidating or scary.
Impacted Teeth: An impacted tooth is a tooth that has failed to completely erupt out of the gum tissue due to an obstruction. Patients often experience serious issues with impacted wisdom teeth, which is a cause for full removal. If an adult tooth is impacted, your dentist may recommend seeing an orthodontist to have the tooth professionally moved. Oral surgery can help loosen the tooth enough to allow for complete eruption.
TMJ: The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects your jawbone to your skull. Several problems can arise with your TMJ, especially if you grind your teeth at night. If you feel like your jaw is popping in place, or you experience frequent headaches and toothache-like pain, you may have issues with your TMJ. Most cases can be treated with medications, a night guard and/or physical therapy. More severe cases need to be treated surgically.
Sleep Apnea: Sleep apnea is when your throat muscles relax while sleeping and obstruct your airway. This can make it extremely difficult to sleep, as your breathing will randomly start and stop. Sleep apnea can be treated with breathing machines, but in more severe cases, surgery is recommended to reposition your jawbone or to eliminate excess tissue that is blocking your airway.
Dental Implants: Dental implants are a common restorative procedure that requires oral surgery. When you want to replace a missing tooth, a dental implant is a permanent solution. An implant consists of three different parts: the post, the abutment, and the crown. The post will act as your new tooth root and will need to be surgically placed into your jaw bone. The abutment and the crown will follow at a later date, as your mouth will need time to heal from the surgery.
Although surgery can sound intimidating, it can be a great solution for a variety of dental issues. Keep in mind that there are other types of oral surgeries available not included on this list. We invite you to explore our website to read about each procedure individually. If you have any other questions about oral surgeries and if you qualify for one, call us at Summer Creek Dental in Humble, Texas.
