Bone Grafting

For all patients who may be considering a dental implant to replace a missing tooth, or have dealt with periodontal disease, bone loss, or any other disease or oral injury, bone grafting may be an excellent option for you . Here at Summer Creek Dental in Humble, Texas, we are so excited to offer the procedure of bone grafting right here in our office. Bone grafting can greatly benefit your oral health and improve the confidence you have in your smile.
What is Bone Grafting?
A surgical procedure increases bone in areas where deterioration has reduced jawbone volume and strength. We perform it to restore full jaw functionality and support for future dental work.
Dental implants require enough bone mass to hold the implant securely in the jaw. If patients lack bone mass, we recommend a bone graft to support the implant properly.
We also use bone grafting when gum disease causes significant bone loss around the teeth. Bone deterioration can sag your face and wrinkle your skin, but grafting helps prevent these effects.
What is the procedure like?
Our team identifies the graft site and a strong bone area within your jaw. Next, we harvest a small portion of healthy bone from the selected strong area. The healthy bone is carefully transplanted into the weak or damaged part of your jaw. To hold it in place, we apply a dissolvable adhesive designed for dental use. Over time, the transplanted bone fuses with the original, creating a strong, unified structure.
Recovery
After the procedure, you may feel some sensitivity in your mouth. Take any prescribed medication to relieve mild discomfort. Eat only soft foods for the first couple of days after treatment. Avoid hot foods to help your mouth heal properly and comfortably. Follow any special instructions your doctor gives you for recovery.
Bone grafting is something that can completely change the course of your oral health and improve your overall appearance through the use of restorative procedures.
